Job Description

Human Resources Manager

The Cleveland Orchestra is one of the world's most accomplished musical institutions, known for extraordinary artistic standards, deep collaboration, and a commitment to excellence on and off the stage. We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to help lead and support the day-to-day people operations of the organization. This is a highly visible, hands-on role that works closely with managers, musicians, staff, and leadership across a complex and collaborative environment. The Human Resources Manager serves as a trusted partner to managers and employees across the organization, supporting recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training and development, HR systems, and organizational initiatives that contribute to a high-performing workplace culture. This role is best suited for someone who combines sound judgment, strong execution, emotional intelligence, and a steady, professional approach to sensitive and sometimes challenging situations.

What You'll Do
  • Lead full-cycle recruitment and onboarding processes for staff positions across the organization, managing multiple concurrent searches and partnering closely with managers to attract, select, and onboard talented employees while ensuring critical staffing needs are met throughout the year.
  • Partner with managers on staffing, hiring strategy, workforce planning, and job design
  • Serve as a resource to managers and employees on employee relations, workplace concerns, performance management, and policy interpretation
  • Conduct and document workplace investigations and support performance improvement and corrective action processes
  • Coordinate employee training, professional development, onboarding, and performance management initiatives
  • Support compensation administration, HR systems management, employee data integrity, and organizational reporting
  • Help strengthen organizational consistency through thoughtful HR processes, clear communication, and strong follow-through
  • Support employee engagement and organizational culture initiatives across departments and teams
  • Ensure HR practices remain aligned with organizational policies, operational standards, and employment laws
What We're Looking For
  • 5 - 7 years of progressive HR experience in roles with broad generalist responsibility
  • For-profit and nonprofit experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Strong judgment, professionalism, and ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and consistency
  • Demonstrated experience managing recruitment processes and partnering effectively with hiring managers.
  • Strong organizational and operational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience navigating employee relations matters, manager coaching, and workplace conflict professionally and calmly
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build credibility and trust across varied personalities and working styles
  • Experience with HRIS systems, applicant tracking systems, and Microsoft 365 applications
  • Someone who is collaborative, accountable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

At The Cleveland Orchestra, excellence is not episodic, it is built through discipline, preparation, collaboration, and shared standards over time. You'll join an organization where the quality of the work matters deeply, where relationships matter, and where HR plays an important role in supporting a strong, healthy, and accountable workplace culture. We offer competitive compensation, excellent benefits, generous paid time off, unlimited and free access to NEO parks and museums, and complimentary concert tickets. Salary Range: $70,000 – $80,000 annually
